Karen Louise Burns, age 79, of Kettering, Ohio, who departed this life on February 28, 2026, surrounded by her devoted family. Born on April 8, 1946, in Whiting, Indiana, Karen was the cherished daughter of the late Thomas and Iva McCutcheon.
A graduate of Ball State University, Karen began her career as a Librarian for the Montgomery County Regional Planning Commission before dedicating 18 years of her life as an Assistant Preschool Teacher, passionately advocating for children with special needs. Her profound love for teaching and nurturing young minds was a testament to her caring nature. Karen was a beacon of kindness and compassion throughout her life, always seeing the good in others and sharing her warmth with everyone she encountered.
Karen's passions extended beyond her career; she found joy in traveling, scrapbooking, and crafting, but her greatest joy came from spending cherished moments with her family and friends. Her legacy of love, creativity, and community service will forever inspire those who were fortunate to know her.
She is preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Laura Adams, and is survived by her devoted husband of 43 years, Mark Burns; her loving sister, Marcia MacDonald; her son J. Spencer (Cristie) Adams; her son Vail (Laena) Burns; her daughter Mindy Burns; and her treasured grandchildren, Kayci Adams, Spencer T. Adams, Ikaika Burns, Dane Burns, I'olani Burns, along with numerous extended family members and friends who will carry her spirit in their hearts.
Visitation will take place at Routsong Funeral Home in Kettering Chapel (2100 E Stroop Rd Kettering OH 45429), Ohio on Friday, March 13, 2026, from 4 PM to 6 PM, followed by a memorial service celebrating her extraordinary life. In lieu of flowers, Karen’s family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to Affinity Hospice Care at 9349 Waterstone Blvd, Ste 340 Cincinnati, OH 45249.
