Kook Nyong Monica Chai

CHAI Kook Nyong Monica, age 87, of Columbus, OH, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 24, 2023. She is Home with her Lord and Savior.

Monica was born on August 12, 1935 to the late Chai Po Phiang and Agnes Tan, in Penang, Malaysia. Monica was a dedicated and caring mother who single handedly raised her three children through college. Monica arrived in the US in September of 2009 and was a longtime resident of Galena, OH. She lived briefly in Florida with her son and daughter-in-law, and could often be found fishing and camping with her family while there. Monica was well known for her gardening and cooking skills, and always loved being outdoors enjoying nature. Her kind hearted and generous spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Monica is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Loy Hean Boon in 1984; two of her siblings.

She is survived by her children, Michael (Rosi) Loy, Anna Loy (Johnny Chuah), and Janet Loy (Esteban De La Luz); grandson, Preston Loy; 2 sisters; and numerous extended family and friends.

The family would like to thank the staff at Soin Medical Center for the excellent care they provided Monica. A visitation will be held from 12-2pm on Thursday, March 2, 2023, at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd. Kettering, OH 45429, with a funeral service to be held following.
