Horwath, Larry Charles, age 91, formerly of Kettering passed away Wednesday Feb. 11, 2026. Larry was born in Oakland, CA in 1934. At age seven, he moved to Dayton, where he attended St. Anthony’s grade school, graduated from Chaminade High School in 1952, and received his bachelor’s degree in Industrial Management from the University of Dayton in 1956. Larry worked for 60 years at The Dayton Stencil Works as General Manager and Vice President. The day he retired, the then mayor Nan Whaley proclaimed the day as Larry Horwath Day in the city of Dayton.

He was dedicated to helping the youth of the community through his commitments to the Scouts of America, Optimist and Presidents Club. Larry has been deeply involved with the Scouts of America throughout his life, beginning as a Cubmaster and later serving as Scoutmaster of Saint Charles Troop 813. His leadership extended beyond this level as he served on the Dayton Scouts Executive Committee for 35 years and as Ohio and West Virginia Area President. Larry attended seven National Scout Jamborees, two World Jamborees, and he served as a National Subcamp Chair four times where he was responsible for recruiting, preparing and organizing more than 1,500 scouts and their leaders. Larry’s outstanding dedication to scouting earned him the prestigious Silver Beaver and Silver Antelope awards.

Larry joined the Riverdale Optimist Club in 1982 where he served in many positions including President and then as the State Level District Lt. Governor. He also represented the Riverdale Optimist Club in the Dayton Area Presidents Club where he became President in 2020. In 1991, he was instrumental in establishing the Presidents Club Scholarships for Sinclair Community College students which he served as chair for 31 years. The newest scholarship formed last year was named in his honor.

Larry was an active member of St. Henry’s Parish where he served as an usher, lector, and eucharist minister and also a lifetime member of the Engineers Club of Dayton.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Marguerite Horwath, his first wife Martha (Jauch) and brother Darrell Horwath. He is survived by his wife of 42 years Janet (Jelinek); his daughter Katherine VonderBrink (Phil); sons John (Maureen), James (Tami), Robert (Alice), Thomas (Raquel), and Michael (Christine); step-children Karen Malko, Michael Malko and Rebecca Welz (Donny); 21 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 TO 7:00 PM Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at the Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Road, Kettering, with a funeral mass at 10:30 AM, Thursday, February 19, 2026 at St. Henry Church, 6696 North Springboro Pike, Dayton followed by burial services at Calvary Cemetery, 1625 Calvary Ave, Dayton.
