Lena G. Gabbard

GABBARD, Lena, age 94, of Springboro, formerly of Miamisburg, passed away Saturday, April 13, 2024. Lena was born on December 9, 1929 in Gary, IN, to the late Waldo and Agnes Grinstead, and was the youngest of their five children. She graduated from Butlerville High School and later worked at both Sunbeam Bread Co. and General Motors. On March 27, 1948 Lena married “the boy from the neighboring farm” Nelson Gabbard, after his service in the U.S Navy during WWII. She enjoyed gardening (in particular her Daylilies), spending time with her sisters, and always doted on her beloved dogs, Sparky and Kelly. Lena will be remembered for her “small but mighty” demeaner and for being a generous, kind, and feisty soul. She was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband of 73 years, Nelson Gabbard; siblings, Harry, Ellen, Mary, and John. Lena is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family would like to thank the staff of Day City Hospice and Tapestry Senior Living for all the comfort and care provided to Lena. Family will greet friends 10:30am-11:00am on Thursday, April 18, 2024 at ROUTSONG FUNERAL HOME, 81 N MAIN ST, CENTERVILLE, OH 45459. A funeral service will begin at 11:00am at the funeral home with Associate Pastor Monty Stratton Officiating. Burial to follow at Springboro Cemetery.
