AWSUMB, Lois Ray (Critchfield), age 100, Bemidji Minnesota and Kettering Ohio passed away in Kettering on July 19, 2025.
Lois was born in St Paul Minnesota on December 31, 1924, to Dr. Lyman Ray and Irene Critchfield. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Paul Awsumb. They were married for 61 years.
Lois is survived by daughters Barbara (John) Birk, Susan (Terry) Conn; sons Bill, Dan (Rose), and Jim (Cindy); grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Lois was a graduate of Macalester College in Pre-Med, then a master’s in medical technology. She worked as a Medical Technologist. After her children were older, she worked as a volunteer, then Activity Director at Kettering Convalescent Center.
Lois is remembered for her bright smile and sweet demeanor. People of all ages who met her were enchanted by her conversation and her perspective. She enjoyed swimming at her Long Lake home and was often seen by neighbors swimming well into her 90's. She often sat with her puzzle books, especially kryptograms and crosswords, as she was a master wordsmith.
She and Ken split time between Long Lake in Bemidji, MN in warm weather, and Florida and Ohio in cooler.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the PEO - Cottey College or Hospice of Dayton
