Luis Justiniano

Dr. Justiniano-Toro, Luis, age 90, of Washington Township, OH passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2023.

Luis joined the Air Force and served from 1950 to 1953. After getting out, he went to school and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Science from Catholic University in Ponce, Puerto Rico in 1964. He then attended Salamanca School of Medicine in Spain from 1966 to 1971 and graduated with a Medical Degree. After graduation, he practiced as a family and ER Physician in both San Juan and Ponce, Puerto Rico from 1971 to 1977. Luis did his specialty at the Puerto Rico Institute of Psychiatry from 1977 to 1980 and practiced Psychiatry for a year in Ponce, Puerto Rico. He then moved to Buffalo, NY and practiced Psychiatry at Buffalo Psychiatry Center for a year. Luis enlisted in the Army in 1982 and was stationed in Fort Benning for two years, where he served as a major. He was then stationed in Heidelberg, Germany and served at the 130th Hospital HQ until he finally separated from the Army in 1987. After the Army, he moved to Toledo where he practiced at Toledo Mental Health Center. He moved again to Dayton, OH in August of 1988 where he practiced in many locations, including Good Samaritan, Grandview, and St. Elizabeth Hospitals and had a private practice in downtown Dayton from 1990 to 2003. He was known to all as Dr. JT. Luis finally retired in May of 2018.

Luis loved working in the yard, cooking, and music. He sang professionally as a tenor while in the Air Force. Later in life, he enjoyed sewing as a form of Occupational Therapy for arthritis.

He is survived by his wife, Carmen Justiniano; children, Gloria, Luis (Kelly), Caroline (Demetrio), and Carlos; grandchildren, Rafael, Carlos-Luis, Michael, Nicole, Sydney, and Elaina; many great grandchildren and more to come.
