EICHNER, Mary Anne, age 94, of Kettering, OH, passed away on Monday, July 20, 2026, surrounded by her family. Mary Anne was born on October 30, 1931 in Columbus, OH, to the late Harold and Mary Bright. She grew up in Columbus and graduated from St. Joseph Academy, where she enjoyed playing basketball for the school. Following her graduation Mary Anne married her high school sweetheart, Roland Eichner, and together they moved to Munich, Germany, where Roland was stationed during his service with the U.S. Airforce. After Roland’s service the couple returned to Ohio, eventually settling in Kettering, where they raised their seven children.
In Kettering, Mary Anne was well known for her community involvement. She was a volunteer extraordinaire, working with numerous organizations, including, Meals on Wheels, Girl Scouts, The Dayton Philharmonic Woman’s Association, and Christ Child Society. She was passionate about supporting local politicians in whom she believed and helped campaign on their behalf. Mary Anne and Roland were original founding members of St. Charles Borromeo Church, where she served as a member of the Bereavement Committee and as a Eucharistic minister for many years.
In her free time, Mary Anne enjoyed playing tennis with the “Jameswood Circle Gang” at Marinole Pool, where she made many lifelong friends. She loved playing golf and continued playing right into her 80s. She was a big fan of Ohio State football, U.D. basketball and horse racing. An avid reader, Mary Anne could often be found in the family room late at night reading her favorite mystery novels. She was also an active participant in UD senior continuing education programs. Above all her family was her number one priority; she never missed her children’s sporting events or club meetings, and took great pride in making family gatherings special. Mary Anne’s feisty and humorous spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Joan Oelgoetz; brother, David Bright; and husband of 59 years, Roland Eichner.
Mary Anne is survived by her children, Kathleen Eichner, Jenny (Mike) Jacques, Eric (Amy) Eichner, Kevin (Peg) Eichner, Maureen Eichner, Michael (Cheryl) Eichner, and Mark Eichner; grandchildren, Sean Duffy, Megan (Sean) King, Sarah (Luke) Kincaid, Kaitlin Eichner, Kelsey (Nathan) Wolfe, Will Eichner, David Eichner, Daniel Eichner, Ana Eichner, Ben Eichner, and Alex Eichner; great-grandchildren, Evan King, Layla Kincaid, Emma King, and Felix Kincaid; sister, Penny (Tom) Merkle; sister-in-law, Cindy Bright; and beloved extended family and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 4500 Ackerman Blvd., Kettering, with Fr. Haemmerle officiating. The family will greet guests an hour prior, from 10-11am at the church. Burial at Calvary Cemetery, Dayton. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton or the Christ Child Society.
