Nelson J. Gabbard

GABBARD, Nelson J., age 97, of Dayton, passed away at the Suites of Walnut Creek on Monday, May 10, 2021. Nelson was born on November 3, 1923 in Hazard, KY. He enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17 and served from Jan. 1941 – Sept. 1945 in the Pacific Theater serving on the U.S.S. Phoenix; Survivor of Pearl Harbor.

Nelson worked on the line and in supervisory positions over the course of his 33 year career with Frigidaire. He enjoyed reading, gardening, and motorcycle trips. Nelson married the love of his life, Lena (Grinstead) Gabbard 73 years ago on March 27, 1948.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Grover and Barbara; brother-in-laws, Harry and Johnny; sister-in-laws, Mary and Ellen. Nelson is survived by his wife and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Family will greet friends 10:30am-11:30am on Tuesday, May 18 at ROUTSONG FUNERAL HOME, 81 N MAIN ST, CENTERVILLE. Funeral services will begin at 11:30am at the funeral home with Associate Pastor Monty Stratton Officiating. Burial to follow at Springboro Cemetery.
