Norman Sam Maschner

June 4, 1927 — February 4, 2021

Norman S. Maschner, originally of Cleveland, OH, born 6/4/1927, passed away peacefully at home on 2/4/2021 at age 93 in Palos Heights, IL. He grew up in Cleveland, OH with his parents, Sam and Emma, and sister, Ruth. Following high school, he served in the Navy, and then attended Denison University, where he earned his B.S. degree. While at Denison, he met his wife and soul mate, Millicent (Richardson). They married in 1950, and raised 4 children in Fairview Park, OH.

Norman worked in quality control in printing and packaging, with Dobeckman, Dow Chemical, and Phillip Morris companies, which led him to the Philadelphia and then Dayton areas. He was active in the Presbyterian Church, serving as deacon and elder, singing in the choir, and sharing his love of music. After losing his wife of 49 years, he found love again and married his current wife, Nancy Hamrick, bringing him to the Chicago area. He lived there happily for the rest of his life. His long life and ability to continue at home can be attributed to his righteous lifestyle and to the love and support of family and caregivers, with special thanks to Elizabeth Newcomb. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

He is preceded in death by his parents and wife Millicent (Richardson) Maschner. He is survived by his wife Nancy Hamrick; sister Ruth Hirsch; children Norman (Laurie) Maschner, Deborah (Leo) Farrell, David Maschner, Patricia (Stuart) Thompson; grandchildren Matthew (Rebecca) Farrell, Diane Farrell, Daniel Farrell, Elizabeth Farrell, Patti Maschner, Natalie (Christopher) Clise, Jake Thompson; great grandchildren Jaeleah Howard, James Morrow Farrell; as well as stepchildren Betsy (Aaron) Berryman, Debbie (Tony) Davidson, and grandchildren Johnny and Jenny Berryman.

Norman will be fondly remembered for his love of family and music, as well as his love of strawberries, love of the beach and sun, and his ability to wiggle his ears.

A private service will be held at Routsong Funeral Home in Centerville, OH on Friday, 2/12/2021 at 10:00 a.m., followed by a graveside service at David’s Cemetery.
