It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Paul Robert Schuh, age 89, on August 6th, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Judie Schuh, the devoted father of Rhonda, Loree and Amy, the adoring grandfather of seven and great-grandfather of two.

Paul was born on November 7th, 1936, in Dayton, Ohio. He was the youngest child of John and Marie Schuh and grew up on the east side with his brother Don and his sisters, Mary Ellen and Joanne.

Paul never met a stranger and had a gift for making people feel welcome, whether they had known him for sixty years or sixty seconds. Odds are, if you met him, you walked away with a nickname that stuck with you for life. He loved telling jokes and singing songs (some of them a little more colorful than others), playing cards and simply being around the people he loved. For decades he and Judie were part of a card club (called “The Group”) and also took vacations with the same couples they had known since high school, maintaining those loyal friendships from the beginning to the end.

Paul loved baseball and was a lifelong athlete. He played in the outfield for the 1954 Wilbur Wright Pilots, who won the city championship that spring and both the city and district titles that summer. In 2017, he and his teammates were inducted into the Wilbur Wright Athletic Hall of Fame. He never really put the game down, playing softball into his mid-seventies and even competed in the Senior Olympics, long after most people his age had hung it up. He was also a proud lifetime member of the Milton Athletic Club.

Paul served in the Army Reserves, and on October 1st, 1960, he married the love of his life, Judie Lehman. Together they shared more than 65 years of marriage and raised three daughters. He spent his career as a sales and customer service manager at Printing Service Co., Color Systems and Progressive Printers Inc., but he would have told you the job was never the point; being a husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend was.

He could fix anything, whether it was an old tool, a piece of furniture he found by the side of the road or something he built from scratch. He had an eye for what was worth keeping and enjoyed collecting things and could tell you the story behind every piece. He especially loved trains, which he put under a real balsam tree every December, the Cincinnati Reds and trips to the Smoky Mountains every year. When the weather was nice, he also loved to cruise around in his convertible, which he often drove in parades with the GTO Club.

Each year he looked forward to the family vacation to Holden Beach, an annual tradition he kept for nearly two decades, where he especially enjoyed sitting safely in the sand and watching his grandchildren play together in the ocean. He always said this was his favorite place in the world.

Paul is survived by his wife, Judie; his daughters, Rhonda (Lee) Danner, Loree (Jeff) Wolfe and Amy (Mike) McQuinn; brother-in-law, Bill Lehman; his seven grandchildren, Gabrielle Schuh, Garrett Danner, Mason Wolfe, Connor (Micayah) Wolfe, Valerie Wolfe, Caitlin (Jacob) Underwood and Jocelyn Halkovics; his two great-grandchildren, JJ and Eli Underwood; and many nieces and nephews, who knew him as so much more than just an uncle.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Marie Schuh; his brothers, John Jr. and Donald; and his sisters, Mary Ellen (Maurice) Peters (Maurice) and Joanne (Don) Peters.

Paul had a way of making everyone in a room feel like they belonged in it and we will carry his jokes, his nicknames and his love with us always. May he rest in peace.

Visitation will be held Thursday, August 13th, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Routsong Funeral Home (2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering, OH 45429). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, August 14th, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church (6245 Wilmington Pike, Dayton, OH 45459). Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery (1625 Calvary Ave., Dayton, OH 45409).
