Hamer, Richard (Rick), age 78, of Centerville, Ohio, passed away in the early morning hours of Sunday, July 13, 2025.
Rick was born in Dayton, Ohio, on July 29, 1946, to Thomas and Thelma (Myers) Hamer. He graduated from Chaminade High School in 1964 and soon after enlisted in the United States Navy, proudly serving four years as a radarman during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, Rick pursued higher education at the University of Dayton, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management and Accounting in 1974.
Above all, Rick will be remembered for his deep love and devotion to his family and friends. He was a thoughtful and generous man who delighted in bringing people together, especially during the holidays. Rick’s home was often filled with laughter, music, and celebration. On weekends, it wasn’t unusual to find him dancing in the living room with his wife and daughter to their favorite song, Elvira. He was a loyal fan of UD basketball and took great pride in cheering on his grandchildren at their sporting events.
Rick had a warm, easygoing spirit and was known for his favorite saying, “It’s all good,” a phrase he lived by, even in the face of life’s challenges. He ended every conversation with his family with his signature farewell, “Love you, later, bye.” His presence brought comfort, his humor brought joy, and his love brought strength to all who knew him.
Rick was preceded in death by his beloved son, Matthew John Hamer, and his parents, Thomas and Thelma (Myers) Hamer. He is survived by his loving wife of many years, Gail; daughter, Stacey; son-in-law, Chad Gemin; and his cherished grandchildren Gavin, Andie, and Reagan.
Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on Wednesday, July 23rd, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 24th, at 10:30 AM at the Church of the Incarnation.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the compassionate staff at Kettering Hospital and Hospice of Dayton for their exceptional care and support during Rick’s final days.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation or the Church of the Incarnation.
