Robert H. Phillips, fondly known as "Butch", left us on June 24, 2025, at the age of 85. Born on September 5, 1939, Butch was a proud member of the U.S. Navy, serving with honor before returning home to create a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure.
Butch grew up in Farmersville, growing up on the family farm and where he attended high school before answering the call of duty, enlisting in the US Navy. While serving, he honed his skills as a machinist and machine repairman. During his tour he fell in love with traveling and hot weather. He had a knack for gathering people around him and will be remembered as a loving father to Robert J. Phillips and daughter-in-law Suzanne Phillips, and a doting grandfather to his two cherished grandchildren, Blaze and Riley.
Butch was the beloved brother of Helen Kirkman, Kingman, TX and Barbara Bowser, North Port, FL. He joins his parents, Roy and Martha Phillips, sister Betty Eshbaugh, niece Lilo Mitz, and dear family friend Hershel Doughman in eternal rest. Even though he has left this world, his spirit lives on through his family and the countless friends he made along the way.
A true bluegrass music lover, Butch found solace in gardening and had a passion for cars and all things mechanical. His kitchen was the heart of the home—he loved cooking and sharing good food, especially spicy, authentic dishes that he discovered during his travels. Butch was an avid traveler who explored 21 countries, reveling in the warm weather and different cultures around the globe.
Butch was a hard worker, storyteller, and cherished his vast circle of friends. He had a big heart. Butch also battled health adversities straight on, battling Multiple Sclerosis for most of his adult life.
While he may have left this world, Butch’s spirit will live on in our hearts and in the songs he loved. Rest in peace, Butch. You will be missed more than words can say.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
