Ronald Riley “Shu” Shumard

SHUMARD, Ronald Riley “Shu”, age 87, of Miamisburg, passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2022. He was born on October 7, 1935 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Robert and Mary Shumard.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Bob, Bill, Frank, and Larry; sister, Pat Gebhart; and grandson, Zachary Crouch. Ron is survived by his children; Cindy Myers, Pegie (Bud) Crouch, and Ron (Mickie) Shumard, Jr.; grandchildren, Josh (Ashley) Crouch, Macqueline (John) Meredith, Jeremy Crouch, Stephen Crouch, Riley Shumard, and Ross Shumard; 10 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; special family friend, Kimberly Sutherland; and numerous extended family and friends.

Ron worked at Miami Maid Bread, was a Machine Tool and Die operator at NCR, and retired from General Motors Delco Products.

Ron was a member of Moose Lodge 1645 for 47 years and was a cardroom Czar for many decades. He enjoyed playing golf, especially beating his good friend, Elmo Wilson. Ron is the only one of his foursome that had a hole in one. He proclaimed to be the best golfcart man at Pipestone. Ron often shared the story with friends and family that he was fifth in his class. He was an avid reader, always with a book or newspaper in his hand and shared emails and Facebook pictures with all.

He was a faithful man that lived a simple life and loved his family and friends. Humor was his way of communication, he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5:00PM – 7:00PM on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at the Routsong Funeral Home, 81 N Main St, Centerville, Ohio 45459. A funeral service will be held Thursday, December 15, 2022 at 11:00AM at the funeral home. Ron will be laid to rest at Miami Valley Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in memory of Ron.
