Bellbrook

Sandra “Sandy” S. Halasz, age 88, of Bellbrook, Ohio, passed away on August 14, 2026, at Hospice of Dayton.

A 1955 graduate of Allen High School in Allentown, Pennsylvania, Sandy went on to build a life centered on family, friendship and service to others. Over the years, she worked as an Executive Secretary at Mack Trucks, as a Teacher’s Aide at Mt. Washington Elementary School in Cincinnati, and in election administration for the Ohio Board of Elections. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Kettering, OH and previously St. James Lutheran Church in Allentown, PA.

Sandy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Stephen Halasz, and her parents, Clarence and Elda Gorr. She is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Halasz Woeste; son-in-law, Jim Woeste; and grandson, Josh Woeste.

For Sandy, family was always at the center of life. She and Steve were rarely apart and genuinely enjoyed simply being together, whether spending time with friends or taking to the dance floor — a sight their daughter especially loved to watch. Sandy and Steve never missed an important event in Stephanie’s life; they were simply always there.

That devotion took on a whole new meaning when their grandson, Josh, was born. Sandy and Steve moved from Cincinnati to the Dayton area to be close to him and became an integral part of his everyday life — helping him learn, grow and become the remarkable young man he is today. Josh was their light, and being his grandparents was one of the greatest joys of their lives. Sandy was enormously proud of him.

Sandy and Steve loved people, and they loved a good party. They treasured the many friendships they made throughout their lives and happily embraced Jim’s large family as their own, sharing countless celebrations, gatherings and good times with his parents and nine siblings. Sandy also had a special affection for cats, who were always an important part of her home and heart.

In keeping with Sandy’s wishes, a simple service will be held Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of the Community Mausoleum at David’s Cemetery in Kettering, Ohio. Sandy will be interred beside her husband, Steve.

The family plans to gather for a celebration of Sandy’s life at a later date, with details to be announced.

Sandy’s family extends a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Trinity Community of Beavercreek, where she resided, and Hospice of Dayton for the genuine kindness, compassion and care they gave her.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Greater Dayton in honor of Sandy and her lifelong love of animals.
