SEITZ, Sandra Lee “Sandy” (Dunkin), age 82, formerly of Oakwood, passed away Sunday, February 12, 2023 from complications of Alzheimer’s Disease. Sandy was born in St. Louis, MO on April 25, 1940 to Thomas P. and Florence (Frank) Dunkin. Due to her father’s job as an Industrial Engineer for Westinghouse, the family relocated often giving Sandy the experience of living in various places. She was a 1958 graduate of Worthington High School in Columbus, OH and graduated from The Ohio State University in 1962. Sandy was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and remained active in the organization for many years. While in college, Sandy met Thomas Seitz, and they married in 1961. They relocated to Dayton where they raised their two children, Karen and Mark.
In the mid-1970s, Sandy obtained her real estate license and became a respected and successful agent in the greater Dayton area for many years. Her knowledge and enthusiasm for the various communities, her attention to detail, and high-end customer service helped her build a successful business to the extent that companies like the Mead Corporation and NCR relied on her when they were moving executives in and out of town. Charitable organizations that benefitted from Sandy’s endless energy include AIM (Adventures in Movement), The Dayton Art Institute, and the Dayton Area Board of Realtors’ outreach programs.
In 1997, several years after her divorce, Sandy moved to Jackson, Wyoming fulfilling a 25-year dream of living in the shadow of the Teton Mountains. She refocused her knowledge and experience in real estate by purchasing properties in Jackson with the goal of providing affordable housing to local residents. Her care of the properties and her outgoing nature made her a well-liked landlord with long term renters.
Sandy met Rod Everett at the bank where she financed the properties, and they became partners in life soon after she made the full time move to Wyoming. Through Rod, she became very active in Rotary International, including being a founding member and president of two local chapters and becoming a Paul Harris Fellow. Rotary was an organization close to her heart which is reflected in the time and efforts she dedicated to the many activities and fund raisers they held. Those include the annual Fall Arts Festival, “Taste of the Tetons,” “Trailblazers” Cambodia water project, the dictionary project, and promoting the expansion of young minds with Interact and Rotaract.
Sandy was passionate about many things, and her curiosity about the world and beyond knew no bounds. She was a voracious reader with an extensive library. She traveled to countries as diverse as Russia and Australia, Cambodia and St. Maarten, and so many more. She loved the arts, the outdoors, and physical activity. She was the consummate hostess, entertaining guests and welcoming visitors and newcomers alike.
Sandy was elegant, kind, and generous, always lending an ear, willing to lend a hand, sharing her infectious laugh and witty sense of humor. She is already missed by her friends, family, and loved ones near and far. Sandy is survived by her two children, Karen Seitz and Dr. Mark Seitz of Dayton, OH and her partner of 26 years A. Rodgers (Rod) Everett and his daughter Kymber Everett of Jackson, WY, and numerous dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Robert and Don, and beloved pets Tiggie and Lovey. A casual memorial gathering will take place on Monday, June 5th at Paw Paw Shelter in Hills and Dales MetroPark from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. A brief service will begin at 6:30.
Her children would like to express their thanks for the wonderful help and care given by the Memory Care staff at 10 Wilmington Place. If desired, friends may make memorial contributions to the 10 Wilmington Place Employee Appreciation Fund or Hospice of Dayton.
