DRAKE, Sandra L., age 77, of Kettering, OH, passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2019. She was born on September 22, 1941 in Erie, PA. A daughter of the late Ernest L. and Hazel B. Mayhue. She was a retired nursing assistant. Sandra first worked as a volunteer for several years at Kettering Medical Center (KMC), Kettering, OH, then worked 7 years as a Nursing Assistant at Trinity Nursing Home, Beavercreek, OH, and then for several more years as a nursing assistant in the Oncology department at KMC. She was also a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Kettering. Sandy was a homemaker, mother, and wife and loved her family and being with them. She liked to camp, and boat on Indian Lake, read lots of books, and enjoys her planted flowers. Most of all she loved all her children and grandchildren, and her life with the love of her life, Bill. They were married on January 28, 1961.
Surviving are her husband of 58 years, William F. Drake III; two sons, Darrell W. of Cincinnati OH and Jason E. of Huber Heights OH; two daughters Tanya S. Holstein of Fairborn OH, and Deann K. and her spouse Ted Lewis of Bellefontaine OH; eight grandchildren, Daniel, Jacob, Emily, Kyle, Matthew, Shane and his partner Justin, and Kara; six step-grandchildren, Jason and Thomas Lewis, Kourtney Dimmerling, Philip, Kris, and Nick Stuyvesant; and seven great-grandchildren, Levi, Ellie, Nicholas, Peyton, Baylee, Jayden and Dominic. Sandy had one sister, Joann Mayhue of Denver, CO (deceased); and one brother, Frederick Mayhue of Rochester, PA (deceased). Sandra was a 10 year member of the Moose Fraternity Lodge # 1533 (WOTM chapter) of Indian Lake, OH.
She was an avid square dancer for many years, worked for special education at Kettering Schools & raised money for children.
A gathering of friends and family will be at Saul-Gabauer funeral home, 273 Rte. 68 Rochester, PA from 12-2pm on Friday, September 6 with a short comital service to follow at 2pm. Interment at Sylvania Hills cemetery. The family suggests contributions to the Cancer Society. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.routsong.com.
