Sara Jane "Sally" Winegar

WINEGAR, Sara Jane “Sally” age 88, of Kettering, OH passed away on Wednesday, June 25, 2025. Sally was born on January 22, 1937, to the late Harold and Estelle Bauer, in Dayton, OH. She grew up in Dayton and graduated from Julienne High School before continuing her education at the Dayton Art Institute. Sally met her future husband, Donald Winegar, on a blind date and they married in 1960. Shortly thereafter they settled in Kettering where they raised their family. Sally was a devoted and caring wife and mother to her family. After her children were older Sally became an exercise instructor for the City of Kettering Rec Center, where she made countless friends over the years. Sally and Don were longtime members of Ascension Catholic Church, where she applied her artistic talents, volunteering for many efforts at church and school. Throughout her life she always enjoyed music, drawing, sewing, games, and nature. She could often be found playing the piano, painting a picture, working at the sewing machine, playing cards, or just watching the numerous birds and animals in her backyard. Above all Sally’s greatest joy in life was her family, and her kind and happy soul will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Doris Weidner and Mary Illes; and brothers, Nick Bauer and William “Buck” Bauer.

Sally is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Donald Winegar; children, Don Winegar Jr., Kathy (Mike) Honious, Terri (Jim) Buie, and Cyndi Bailey; 8 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and numerous extended family and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at Church of the Ascension, 2025 Woodman Dr. Kettering, OH 45420, with visitation starting an hour prior at 10am. Inurnment at Calvary Cemetery Dayton. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
