Scott J. Johnson

Scott J. Johnson, age 50, of Dayton, OH, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, August 20th, 2026. He was born on May 28th, 1976 in Dayton, OH to Michael and Margaret Johnson. Scott grew up between Dayton, OH and Phoenix, AZ, graduating from Westview High School. Following high school, Scott served his country with the U.S. Navy. Upon his discharge, he discovered his passion as a firefighter and paramedic, serving several communities such as New Lebanon, Riverside, and Englewood. Scott finally found his home with the Dayton Fire Department serving 22 years, most recently as Lieutenant for Station 10. Throughout his career, Scott became known for his leadership, fairness, and genuine care for those around him. He was a leader without ego, creating an atmosphere where everyone felt understood and valued. To his crew, Scott was less of a boss but more so a true firefighter: always ready to step in when needed. At Station 10, he helped create a brotherhood where the crew could work hard, laugh together, and feel at home. His endless movie quotes, sense of humor, and easygoing personality made every shift memorable. His crew will remember Scott not only as an exceptional firefighter and leader, but as a brother and friend who made the station feel like family.

Above all else, Scott was an amazing father, son, brother, uncle and friend who loved fiercely. He adored spending time with his daughters and had a passion for adventure and the outdoors such as biking and fishing. Other hobbies included skateboarding, surfing, jiujitsu, MMA and kickboxing, reflecting the youthful and adventurous spirit that everyone admired in him. Scott’s contagious laugh pulled you right in, no matter how bad the dad joke. Dedicated to the people he loved, he was just one call away whenever you needed him. Reserving no filter, Scott always spoke the honest truth, while somehow softening it with his effortless humor. Scott was a true original whose spirit will never be forgotten; his humor, love, and loyalty will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Scott is preceded in death by his sister, Marcy Johnson, grandfather, Hugo Miller, and grandmother, Barbara Johnson.

He is survived by his loving daughters, Aliyah Johnson and Avery Johnson; parents, Michael (Sheila) Johnson, and Margaret (Lonnie) Olson; grandfather, David Johnson, grandmother; Sue Miller; siblings, David (Elizabeth) Brown, John Ryan Brown, Michael (Angie) Johnson, and Cassie (Ben) Palmer; several nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends who will carry his memory forward.

A celebration of his life will be held on September 13th from 1-4 PM at The Dayton Firefighters Activities Center Local 136, 3616 Needmore Rd. Dayton, OH, 45424, with memories being shared at 2pm. In lieu of flowers Scott’s parents request donations to be made to his GoFundMe memorial account to support his daughters and their bright futures.
