CURTIS, Thomas D. “Tom”, age 81, of Centerville, passed away on December 26, 2025. He was born on February 1st, 1944 to parents H. Russell and Evelyn Curtis.
Tom graduated from Wilbur-Wright Highschool in 1962, where he met Betty Jane Stackhouse. After graduation, Tom enlisted and honorably served his country as a member of the US Marine Corps. During that time, Tom and Betty began a relationship, later marrying on May 8, 1965. After his 4.5 years of service with the Marines, Tom and Betty started a family with the birth of their sons David in 1966 and Dan in 1969.
At first, Tom took classes and tried his hand at drafting. Looking to support his family, Tom took a job with the US Postal Service in 1973, a job which he held for over 30 years.
Tom and Betty were devout members of Otterbein United Methodist and Christ Church United Methodist. They enjoyed their careers and family life together as parents and grandparents until Betty’s passing in 2001.
In his retirement, Tom enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his granddaughters. He could often be seen and heard cheering them on at their soccer games. Tom also had the great joy of being able to meet his great-grandson, Brooks, and was able to witness his Dedication to Christ on Father’s Day 2025.
Tom also loved gardening and maintained a little piece of farmland that was entrusted to him, proudly sharing his vegetables. As a lifelong Daytonian, he also supported the Reds, Browns, and Buckeyes.
He is preceded in death by his parents and Betty, his beloved wife of 36 years.
Left to cherish Tom’s memory are his sons, David T. Curtis and Daniel T. (Holly) Curtis; granddaughters, Taylor, Alexa, and their mother Angie; grandsons, Noah, Luke, and great-grandson, Brooks; siblings, Susan (Tim) Monaghan, Jack (Sandy) Curtis, and Judy Foster.
Friends and family may gather at Routsong Funeral Home Centerville (81 N. Main Street) on Friday, January 9, 2026. Visitation will be held from 10-12pm, with a service to follow, starting at 12:00pm.
