Kettering

GERAGHTY, Thomas Charles, 86, of Kettering, passed away March 17,2024. Family and friends gathered with him as he transitioned into his new life.

The youngest of five children, he was born July 20, 1937, in Cincinnati to Margaret (Harrigan) and Tim Geraghty. When Tom was seven, his father died and the family relocated to Dayton.   He attended Corpus Christi elementary school and was a 1956 graduate of Chaminade High School, where he was a member of the Chaminade Eagles football team.

He received his bachelor’s degree from Xavier University and served two years in the U.S. Army before returning and earning an MBA from Xavier. Tom spent his career in quality control and management roles at General Motors Inland plant. After retiring, he was employed at Dayton Wheel Products.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Barbara Balsom and his sisters Mary Alice Geraghty, Kay McElwain and Peggy Carroll. He is survived by his wife of 32 years Suzanne Neumann, brother Edward Geraghty, son Tom Geraghty, and son Steve Geraghty (Sally) and their four children Carly, Grant, Clare and Ryan. Other survivors are step-daughter Karen Johnson (Benoit Goessens), step-son Brad Johnson, and brothers-in-law Jim McElwain, and Jack Carroll along with numerous extended family members and friends.

Fulfilling Tom’s dream to live by the ocean, he and Suzanne retired to Isle of Palms, South Carolina. His days were filled with golfing, volunteering and traveling throughout the world with his partner-in-adventure Suzanne. In 2019, they returned to Dayton, where both spent their youth.

Tom was a man of warmth and integrity. He was a good husband and true partner in every way. He was a devoted father whose sons recall his tireless volunteering with their sports activities, and a proud grandfather. He was a man whose family and friends will never forget his sense of humor, laughs and hugs.

Please honor him by giving someone a smile today.
