Tom McCauley, 85, of Oakwood, Ohio passed away peacefully at the Hospice of Dayton on October 21. He was born in Millvale Pennsylvania to the late Harold and Margaret McCauley on November 11, 1939.

He graduated from Penn Hills High School and earned a BSEE from Penn State University. He later received a Masters Degree while serving in the Air Force.

One of Tom’s first assignments in the Air Force was to Holloman AFB in New Mexico where he met Margaret (Clark) McCauley his wife of 58 years.

Tom had a variety of jobs and assignments during his 30 year career in the Air Force. He began as a flight test engineer and then became a project manager for fighter jets. He had a 3 year exchange with the Canadian military in Cold Lake, Alberta and later a liaison with the Israeli military. He worked at the Naval Observatory in Washington D.C.

Near the end of his time in the Air Force he was the Dean of Defense Systems Management College at Ft. Belvoir, Virginia.

Tom retired from the Air Force as a Colonel and then worked with Innovative Technologies and Booz Allen Hamilton as a consultant.

His favorite pastime was golf. If he wasn’t on the links then he was watching golf or practicing in his yard. Tom is survived by his wife, Margaret, his son Sean, daughter-in-law Silvia and 2 grandchildren Alexis and Maxwell; son Ryan, brother-In-law, John Clark, sister Margie “Jim Jamieson; nephew Jimmy.

A military funeral will be held at the Veterans National Cemetery of Dayton (4400 W Third St.) on November 12 at 11:00am. 

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Hospice of Dayton.
