Thomas Lee Weller

April 26, 1941 — May 19, 2023

WELLER, Thomas Lee, age 82, of Centerville, OH peacefully passed at home, surrounded by his loving family, on Friday, May 19, 2023. Tom was born on April 26, 1941, to the late Everett Thomas and Katie (nee O’Bannon) Weller of Dayton, OH. He grew up on the Weller family farm in Miami Township and graduated from Miamisburg High School in 1959. Tom graduated from University of Dayton with his Associate’s in Electrical Engineering. He launched his career in New Jersey where he worked with RCA developing new electrical component technologies for government use. After returning to Dayton, he received his draft letter for Vietnam and he joined the Army National Guard. He served six years. He also reconnected with his lifelong friend and future wife Patricia “Pat,” later marrying April 25, 1970. He worked for NCR for eight years in research and development before he joined Projects Unlimited for five years.  In 2005, Tom retired from Ledex Technologies, where he enjoyed a successful career as supervisor of solenoid manufacturing quality control. Tom’s work legacy was his ability to work alongside and manage dozens of women diplomatically and strategically. He was sought by many for his calm and gentle nature. Tom loved to be amongst people so he worked part-time as a lab courier for PriMed Physicians for about 10 years and then for Weller Health Transitions, a company started by his son and daughter-in-law, to serve the medical care needs of Dayton’s most frail and elderly in post-hospital, nursing and assisted living facilities.

Throughout his life, Tom’s most cherished pastime was woodworking. He was well known amongst family and friends for the gorgeous furniture he made for them, going so far as to use his passion to make toys for underprivileged children in other countries. Tom was a lifelong learner, attending coursework at Wright State University and Wilmington College, as well as online coursework in various interests, to continue feeding his mind in it’s quest for more. He never stopped being curious until his last breath. In his free time he also enjoyed many hobbies including golfing, photography, painting, listening to music, fishing, reading, politics, home remodeling, organization/record-keeping and his Christian faith; he did not like to swim! He cherished family road trips to the Outer Banks, NC, Bald Head Island, SC, Orlando, FL, Holmes County (“Amish Country”) in Ohio. Above all else, he was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. Tom was most happy when spending time with his two grandsons, Jack and Luke, who he taught to ride bikes, golf, fish and work with fine woods. He was a steady, consistent presence for these boys and thoroughly embraced watching them become the wonderful young men they are today. Tom will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Tom is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Jeffrey Thomas Weller; sister, Patricia Mae Weller; and brothers, Charles “Dewey” Weller and Marion Weller.

Tom is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Patricia “Pat” A. Weller (nee Heier); grandsons, Johnathan “Jack” Weller and Luke Weller; daughter-in-law, Christine (nee Buchanan) Weller; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
