Dr. W. Scott Nekrosius, age 80, of Dayton, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, October 25, 2025.
Born in Chicago, Illinois, on January 19, 1945, to the late Walter B. Nekrosius and Magdalene S. Nekrosius. In his youth he was an ardent Boy Scout and was proud to have earned his Eagle Scout award. Scott graduated from the University of Chicago with a degree in biology. His early career included work as a diener and research on arteriosclerosis before he earned his medical degree from the Milwaukee Medical School. He then proudly served as a Major and Medical Doctor in the United States Army in Nuremburg, Germany.
Dr. Nekrosius was a board-certified psychiatrist who maintained a private practice in Dayton for decades, dedicating his life to improving the lives of countless patients. Most notably he was the Chief of Psychiatry for Kettering Hospital. Scott was honored to be selected as a delegate to the American Medical Association during his career. Outside of his profession, he was an active member of the community, serving the local and state chapters of the American Cancer Society. Scott was also a dedicated member of the Dayton Liederkranz Turner German-American Club, where he served as vice president and choir member. He was passionate about studying, collecting, and repairing antiques, with a special interest in seasonal nutcrackers. Scott also enjoyed traveling, reading, and playing bridge. He was a longtime and active member at Westminster Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Dr. Diane Frey; daughter, Tara Schwegler; brother, Donald X. Nekrosius; sister-in-law, June (Jim) Wohlhuter; and his many loving nieces and nephews and their families; Walt (Juliana King) Nekrosius, and their three children, Gabriel, Amelie, and Luca; Samuel (Lee Anne Hasselbacher) Nekrosius, and their children, Alta and Graham; Margaret (Jo Borras) Nekrosius, and their children, Violet and Walter; Jonathan (Maria) Schlicher, and their children, Olivia and Jacob. He was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Geraldine Nekrosius.
A celebration of his life will be held at 10am on January 3, 2026, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 125 N. Wilkinson St, Dayton, OH 45402. A reception will follow at the church. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The American Cancer Society.
