HIEB, Wesley Austin, age 93, of Kettering, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, May 23, 2022. Wesley was born in McCluskey, North Dakota on February 25, 1929. After high school, he attended Valley City Teachers’ College for a couple of years and then joined the United States Air Force. It was during that time that Wesley met Mary, and he knew right away she was the one for him. They tied the knot in August of 1952 and were married for 67 years.
Wes completed his BS degree in Physical Education at Miami University. Wes taught Physical Education in the Kettering Schools for 30 years. In fact, Wesley never missed a day of school in his career. He loved the children and he loved teaching them to be active. Wes led by example; he performed every exercise and every activity with each of his classes every day. He was inducted into the Chester Roush Educational Hall of Fame in 2015. Wesley enjoyed running and playing basketball, and he played basketball until he was 80 years old. Wes also worked at Dorothy Lane Market in the accounting department and as a greeter for the holidays. Wesley always had a joke to share and a song in his heart (and would even sing while mowing the grass or walking). Wesley was a member of First Grace Brethren Church where he sang in the choir and served on the deacon board for many years. Lastly, Wesley loved to share his faith in Jesus with anyone who would listen and now he’s home with his Savior.
Preceded in death by his parents, August and Martha Hieb; wife Mary Hieb, son Matthew Hieb; brother Harold Hieb, sister Eleanor Hieb, mother-in-law Vera Mayne, brother-in-law Everett Chambers, and sisters-in-law Angela Pacey and Vera Pacey. Wesley is survived by his children, Eileen (Tom) Tobias and Nanette Hieb; daughter-in-law Cara Hieb; sister Glorian (Ron) Anderson; sister-in-law Charline Chambers, brother-in-law Norman (Terry) Mayne; six grandchildren, Susanna, Austin, Courtney (Caleb), Wesley (Katherine), Cecily, and Woody; and seven great-grandchildren, Vera, Ezra, Phoebe, Selah, Amyla, Graysen, and Raelynn.
