William J. Brogan

April 4, 1943 — May 16, 2026

Centerville, Ohio

William “Bill” John Brogan, 83, of Centerville, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2026 at Hospice of Dayton. Born in Dayton, Ohio, on April 4, 1943, to Dr. Austin and Mary (Edmiston) Brogan, Bill was the fourth of six children and remained deeply devoted to his family throughout his life.

A proud Dayton native, Bill graduated from the University of Dayton, Chaminade High School and Corpus Christi Elementary School. He enjoyed a successful career in banking that began with Gem City Savings & Loan and concluded with his retirement from National City Mortgage. In addition to his professional career, Bill taught Real Estate Finance at Sinclair College for more than 30 years and authored a textbook on the subject.

Bill was a devoted fan of the Dayton Flyers and proudly held season tickets for over six decades. He enjoyed golfing, gardening and spending time on Hilton Head Island. Alongside his wife, Cicily, he faithfully organized the Chaminade and Julienne High School Class of 1961 reunions every five years, treasuring the friendships and memories shared with classmates over the years. Bill loved Dayton and enthusiastically shared his knowledge and appreciation of the city with anyone willing to listen.

While Bill valued his work and community involvement, his greatest priority was always his family. He generously gave his time coaching his children’s baseball, soccer and basketball teams. Later in life, nothing brought him more joy than his six grandchildren. Whether attending sporting events, musical performances or dance recitals, Bill was their biggest supporter and rarely missed an opportunity to cheer them on.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Cicily (Barlow) Brogan; his children, Bill Brogan, John (Stacey) Brogan and Molly (Mike) Shapiro; and his cherished grandchildren, Jake, Austin, Audrey, Aidan, Griffin and Lauren. He is also survived by his siblings, Judge James (Sheila) Brogan, Patricia (Paul) Samson and Robert Brogan, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by his sisters, Jane Brogan Timperman and Barbara Brogan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Charles Borromeo Church (4500 Ackerman Boulevard, Kettering, OH 45429) on Friday, June 5, 2026 at 11:30 am with visitation beginning at 10:30 am. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
