Emblem

DYER, William Harry “Bill”, age 100, a resident of Kettering, Ohio, passed at home while so lovingly cared for by his wife Mable and under the care of Hospice of Ohio.

Bill was born May 13, 1926.

Bill joined the Navy at age 16 to help his mother support his siblings. He hitchhiked across the US for basic training in Texas and then was stationed at Miami Naval Station. While there, Bill worked as a draftsman for the Navy.

After leaving the service, Bill married Patricia Jean Randall and became a father to Kent and Kevin Dyer. He held numerous jobs throughout his career but retired from Montgomery County Recorder’s Office. He was so diligent to always provide for his family.

His most admirable quality was the love he had for Jesus and his testimony he so willingly shared. He served for many years through a number of churches in the bus ministry. His heart was to expose as many children as he could to the love of God and how that would be the most important relationship in their lives.

He continued to make that his life goal…to boldly share Jesus…with all he came in contact with.

He was a firm dad who then became an engaging grandfather, especially to his grandsons who played sports…always teaching them “the moves” to make their game performance better. He also made sure his granddaughters had the adequate financial means for mission trips and church camps.

He recently celebrated his 100th birthday and enjoyed immensely the outpouring of visits, cards, and gifts from numerous well-wishers! If you asked him the secret of reaching 100, he would not tell you it had anything to do with good genes or a healthy lifestyle, but he would say it was because Jesus lived in his heart!

In 2002 he married the love of his life and soul mate Mable who spoiled him immensely and tirelessly cared for him all the way into the arms of Jesus.

He was proceeded in death by his son Kevin. He is survived by his loving wife Mable of Kettering. He is survived also by his son Kent (Vicki) Dyer of North Carolina and his grandsons, Adam and Jonathan and granddaughters Lesley, Jenna and Hannah. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Denise of Florida, as well as her children, Maggie, Eddie, and Erin. He is also survived by Mable’s sons, Ron (CJ) Lowery of Dayton, and Bill Lowery of Kentucky. Bill was a great grandfather to 10. Thanks to Hospice of Ohio, especially Adena, Tammie and Deanna for being the angels God provided in his final days. Also, to Pastor Siler, Pastor James Anderson of Middletown, Pastor DeMint and wife, along with special friends Debbie, Sandy, Linda, Mike and Alex.

Family will greet friends from 11:00am-12:00pm on Monday, July 27 at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering. Funeral Services for Bill will begin at 12:00pm at the funeral home. To honor his service to our great nation, Bill will be laid to rest in Dayton National Cemetery.
