Winnifred "Winnie" Betty Kvamme

April 17, 1930 — October 5, 2023

Kettering

Winnifred “Winnie” Betty (Neuenfeld) Kvamme, 93, of Kettering went to meet her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, October 5, 2023.

She was born on April 17, 1930, in Lunds Valley, ND--the daughter of Fredrick and Cora Neuenfeld. She married Gordon Kvamme on June 5, 1960, in Palermo, ND. They lived on a farm and raised beef and dairy cows just north of town until they divorced in 1996.

Winnie was a wonderful and caring mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend and will be missed terribly. She was kind and sweet--with a very patient and laid-back personality. You could always find her with a smile on her face, and she always looked on the bright side of life despite any circumstances. She loved to laugh and chat with family, friends, and neighbors while having coffee and any kind of sweets such as cookies, pies, and cake. She would always find time to visit!

She also looked forward to outings with her friends in the Get-together Club in Palermo, ND.

Winnie was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening, and knew the weather conditions on any given day. She should have been a meteorologist or ornithologist. She adored birds of all species and enjoyed feeding and watching which birds would grace the feeder or windows daily.

Winnie was well-known and well-loved in Palermo and Stanley, ND where she lived for 82 years. She graduated from Stanley (ND) High School in 1949. She worked very hard on the farm and was always the first one out to the barn. She also worked part-time at Stanley Medical Clinic, Palermo School, Farmer’s Union Insurance, Mark-it-Foods, and Piggly Wiggly.

Her longest tenure of work was at the Mountrail County Bethel Home; she worked there for 17 years in the laundry department. She finally retired in the spring of 2012 at the age of 82. Anywhere she worked, she was adored by her co-workers because she was hard-working, fun, and a team player.

She moved in with her daughter, Lanae (Kvamme) Scott, and Lanae’s husband, Roger Scott, in October 2012 and lived in Kettering, OH until her death.

Winnie was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, LeRoy and Robert Neuenfeld, sister-in-law, Sylvia Neuenfeld, infant son, Gorwin Kvamme, and daughter, Lori Kvamme Zeff.

Winnie is survived by one son, Leland of Cornell, WI; one daughter, Lanae (Roger) Scott of Kettering, OH; five grandchildren: Cody (Jennifer) Kvamme, Spencer Lucas, Shanawn (Andrew) Neeser, Jacob (Britney) Lucas, and Mariah Kvamme; and seven great-grandchildren: Greysen, Westin, and Avelyn Neeser, Jonah and Uriah Lucas; Cora and Quinn Kvamme.

Winnie absolutely loved being a mom, grandma, and great-grandma. She could never give the little ones enough hugs and kisses and loved rocking them to sleep.

She was a long-time member of Faith Lutheran Church in Palermo, North Dakota. She was active in the church ladies’ aid circle and bible study. While living in Ohio, she attended church with her daughter, Lanae, and Lanae’s husband, Roger, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Kettering OH.

She served others to the end; she even donated her body to science—to Wright State University’s Anatomical Gift Program.
