TRACY, Larry Stephan, age 78, of Beavercreek passed away at Kettering Medical Center on 21 Sept 2018. Larry was born 25 May 1940 in Richmond, Indiana and graduated from Richmond High School in 1959. He attended Ball State University before enlisting in the Army in June 1960. He served in the Military Police Corps for three years as a security dog handler supervisor. In May of 1965 Larry joined the Ohio Army National Guard as a security supervisor for the 137th Air Defense Artillery Battalion (Nike-Hercules). When the base deactivated in March 1970, he served as supply sergeant for HHC 372nd Engineer Battalion through October 1983. In November 1983 Larry became company supply sergeant for HHC 371st Corps Support Group. Larry retired from that position as Sergeant First Class in May 2000 with nearly 40 years total service.
Larry was a member of Ascension Catholic Church in Kettering. He was actively involved in several organizations to include American Legion Post #763, 40 et 8 #440, DAV #9, and Knights of Columbus. He was an avid traveler who enjoyed visiting numerous countries across the world. His favorite location was St. Croix in the US Virgin Islands, in which he’d hoped to retire.
He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Tracy and mother, Naomi (Buchholz). He is survived by a host of friends, especially his “army buddies”.
There will be no pubic visitation at Larry’s request. However, a Mass will be held on Wednesday, October 3, at 11:00am at Ascension Catholic Church, 2025 Woodman Drive in Kettering. Graveside committal services with military honors will be held at 1:00pm at Dayton National Cemetery, 4100 W 3rd Street, Dayton immediately after mass.
